Group Risk Manager

Role Purpose:

To assist the Group Head of Governance for Risk & Compliance in ensuring the Eldon Group and employees follow all elements of applicable laws, regulations, standards, and ethical practices.

The role will be based in Bristol and will involve working across multiple locations within the Eldon Group requiring travel to all sites including Newcastle, Southampton, and South Africa.

The role reports to the Group Head of Governance for Risk & Compliance.

Role Responsibility:

  • Assist the Group Head of Governance for Risk & Compliance to establish critical measurements, associated control systems and continuous improvement
  • Establishing and quantifying the organisation’s ‘risk appetite’, i.e. the level of risk they are prepared to accept and align the risk management approach
  • Report progress against the Risk Plan to the ARCC
  • Develop, own and review standards to ensure that the Company has a robust Risk Framework, and that processes are in place for identifying areas requiring corrective action and evaluation
  • Act as a subject matter expert for Eldon, providing pragmatic, commercial and strategic consulting advice and assistance to the business, to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of their approaches to the management of regulatory risk
  • Ensure that advice on regulatory risk is practical, pragmatic and proportionate – adding value to the business, whilst complying with all relevant aspects of regulation covering compliance, risk management operations, requirements of key persons, systems and controls, along with providing recommendations that are commercially focused
  • Ensure risk registers are reviewed and updated by register owners as per the Risk Management Strategy
  • Risk assessment, which involves analysing risks as well as identifying, describing and estimating the risks affecting the business
  • Making business continuity plans to limit risks and prepare for if things go wrong
  • Ensure the appropriate policy and procedures are in place and embedded within the business
  • Conduct thematic reviews based on current business practices to ensure adequate risk management
  • Provide risk-based consultancy to group functions throughout the product lifecycle to ensure regulatory risks are identified and managed
  • Report any violations or potential violations of compliance or regulatory standards
  • Develop a culture of risk aversion in all business areas
  • Providing support, education and training to staff to build risk awareness within the organisation this can extend to Gibraltar

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience of regulatory codes and an understanding of applicable regulation
  • Understanding of the insurance market and relevant products and services
  • Graduate or equivalent
  • Relevant experience in regulatory risk
  • Good IT skills
  • Multi-site experience
